Tropic of Cancer by Henry Miller. First edition, fifth printing $450.00

The Obelisk Press, Paris, January 1939. A very good condition book with all original blue and white wrappers with some wear to the edges. Owner’s signature to front free endpaper with “Paris “45” written underneath the owner’s name, no other writing inside, no bookplates. The Paris edition first printing was in 1934 (and can cost up to $60,000). The Tropic of Cancer was not legal in the United States until Grove Press published it in 1962. This particular copy of the book, when published, was illegal in the United States due to obscenity, sex and other moral questions. The spine is in very good condition and the book is complete and no loose pages. A very cool book.
