The Viking Press, New York, 1939. “First Published in April 1939” on copyright page and “first edition” at bottom front flap of the dust jacketbeing the first issue points are present here. The book is near fine with creamy white pages with no writing inside, no bookplates, no owner’s signature. It is very square and clean. The dust jacket is very good with some toning and chips to the corners and the chipping to the top of the spine as shown in the picture. The spine is not sunned or darkened which is unusual and excellent. Many copies of the first edition dust jacket have a brown sun damaged spine. This one is not browned. A Pulitzer Prize Winner, Steinbeck’s greatest achievement, 1940 film starring Henry Fonda, major literature and Americana masterpiece to boot. This book hits like a ton of bricks. One of the best books ever written.
