Random House, New York, 1936. William Saroyan inscribed on the front free endpaper in the year of publication: “To Harry W. Zollars with good wishes-William Saroyan April 1936.”

“Harry W. Dollars” is a fictional character from one of Saroyan’s short stories named “Harry” from his book The Daring Young Man on the Flying. Did Saroyan do this inscription as an homage to Harry W. Dollars or Zollars? At any rate a curious inscription by the Pulitzer Prize Award winner. Saroyan refused the award which saying “commerce should not patronize art”.
